Basonas Construction Corp Gives Browns Companies Building a Facelift

New York City, N.Y. (September 22, 2009) Basonas Construction Corp was elated in restoring a historic pre-war building to its former grandeur. They used the latest technologies to restore the exterior and façade, besides the new roof and cleaning done.

The 12-story building is predominantly used for commercial office space and is located at 461 Park Avenue South. Designed by Paul R. Allen it is a quaint building in the neighborhood of Midtown South.

Under the year of restoration, the project consisted of plenty of work. Reconstruction of a decorative terra cotta parapet was undertaken requiring replication of terra cotta with Pre cast concrete units. The roof was replaced, along with four large skylights. There was major restoration undertaken of the bulkhead involving structural steel replacement: columns and spandrels. The entire top floor north wall of the bulkhead was replaced with new masonry, as well as the north east corner. On the façade elevations all the masonry was re-pointed, the lower façade consisting of limestone was washed using the time consuming soak and rinse method to eliminate the need to use chemical or high pressure wash.

“The work involved all aspect of the exterior restoration trade,” said Michael Brion, vice president of Basonas Construction Corp.
